Journey to a new generation
“Over the years, the role of women in society was seen as secondary, yet women have always been the ones bringing up the new generation of men; men who in time looked back and acknowledged the influence their mothers had in their early development and the effect their mothers had on their own growth as men who excelled in their area of expertise.
We live in times when the role of women in society is acknowledged more than ever and by celebrating this, we ensure the place women have in our lives remains pivotal.
In times like these, when we watch Ukrainian women leaving behind the homes they built, carrying their children, with arms that never seem to get tired, even after days of traveling, enduring fear, cold, hunger and uncertainty; these women don’t break down, they pick themselves and their children up, with strength and courage, the type of strength and courage we only ever see in movies or read about in novels, but it is the type of strength and courage we all have inside us.
Everything women bring to the world: their power to bring forth life, creativity, beauty, gentleness, strength; their caring nature and busy hands in action; the women’s togetherness is an explosion of colour and joy, of cultures and traditions from around the globe gathered into a tapestry of exquisiteness.
Tech is a very creative industry; the level of innovation and applicability requires the dynamism women have. No offense to men; women have a sense of urgency and ability to distribute their attention to a range of solutions, implications, options in a very short time this is why their skills are complemented by the skills men in the industry have; we need role models everywhere.
When I was a young girl, I always wanted to be a doctor and studied up to the age of 16 towards that. A life event shifted things and my academic studies took a different turn when I decided to follow the Economic career path.
On this journey I was an academic Olympian at Maths and Economics in High school, then on through to university, where Economic Studies was the natural journey, I specialised in banking and stock exchange with accountancy as a core subject.
The year I graduated, I moved to London and was employed as accounts assistant. The Finance Director I worked for was an amazing woman; to this day I am inspired by her passion for the job.
My first Christmas in London was spent in the office, working to help her finalise the company’s financial year end before the actual year was ending. That Christmas will always stay with me as the one where I understood that working in Accounts is more about investigative work and finding solutions than counting the money as some might think.
From then to now, I followed a natural job progression intertwined with further training as part of the Association of Accounting Technicians, then back to university studying Strategic Management and Leadership and joining the Chartered Management Institute.
It was never a chase for a goal as FD; I enjoyed each chapter and gave my best everywhere I worked, learning new things, applying myself and most importantly meeting amazing people along the way, that helped shaped me as a professional ...that journey is not over; there are new challenges and new adventure all the time.”
